Venice has always been one of my favorite cities, yet it exists in a constant dialogue with water. During periods of acqua alta, when the sea level rises and the city slowly floods, everyday spaces transform into a fragile landscape between land and water.
These photographs were taken during one of these flooding events, observing how the city adapts and continues to exist within this delicate balance. Despite engineering efforts such as the MOSE barrier system designed to protect Venice from rising tides, the phenomenon of acqua alta remains part of the city’s reality.
